March 5, 2015  - PiE Planning Meeting - Bristol Bakery 7am

NEWS:  Grants prep meeting on 3/4/15 after school gave headlights to some science based materials that will be considered for PiE grants in the upcoming spring cycle.  There may be others...come find out the great ideas being funded. Thank you to Kristin Miskavage for her stewardship of the Grant Process.

Grant review scheduled for April 2 in the Flex Space 6pm- OPEN TO ALL! CHILDCARE and SNACKS!

Also, we heard from some of the grants from the fall cycle: Story Telling from Grade 6 grant has made a lasting impression in the Primary wing, too! We are reminded of the many facets of our HCS Community.  Maker Space materials already in good use…look for details and photos coming up on the HCS and HCS PiE Webspaces, Facebook pages and upcoming bulletin board installments!

Thanks for the “getting out the vote” calls AND for all those who got out to vote.. It is important that our HCS community is heard.  

Nutrition & School Lunch Discussion: Great to have fresh veggies, fruits and other healthy choices, especially at salad bar. We discussed the balance between predictability and variety and the concerns with Juice and other quickly digested foods during the school day (in vending machines as well as in cafeteria) - Follow-up.

·       Carla is looking for a partner to “share the chair”…. New partners?

·       Preferably early in the year (2015)

Monthly planning Meetings needed:

·       Bring back a monthly meeting to help coordinate new events.

·       Want to expand on the current small group of people that participate.

·       Hoping to not conflict or overwhelm with the current monthly fundraising committee. Complement by        

having it shortly afterward.

·       7am early morning meeting; potentially at Bristol Bakery. Thursday mornings are better.

a.      Budget  - SOLID PROCESS & COMMITMENT by admin, board members and buddies  (THANKS!)

                                             i.  action – get out the vote (Kristin to help with timing & we can encourage folks to get out there to vote (not HOW to vote, of course)

b.     Angel fund -> Star fund  WE SUPPORT

                                              i. Action: Decide how to get it into our operations (Jim to work with Allegra, Stephanie & to take to finance committee)

c.      Science Fair – what is our strategy for Grades 7/8?

                                               i. Action: How do we meet our objectives? Can partnership help? (Allegra to follow-up with Jeff and 7/8 staff)

d.     Testing coming up SBAC, NAEP--- we are interested in understanding the FEEDBACK LOOP  -- how do we do and what are we doing about it? For these tests and other feedback we can use to help our students

2)    Finance Committee

a.      ~11K in budget  -to stay on $18K pace and maintain grant/giving, need to Target $2-3 K for Family and do all the planned events (LakeMonsters, etc)

b.     Playground planning underway – Tanya leading a comprehensive plan –exciting stuff happening! Has committee and is collaborating with staff
